William Goldsmith was born on 8 Oct 1725, in Wenham in the Province of Massachusetts Bay. He was the only child of Zacheus Goldsmith, Jr., and Tabitha Dodge.[1]
His mother died in 1726, when he was only a year old.[2] His father remarried in 1729,[3] when William was three. So, his step-mother, Mehitable Kimball, raised him.
William married Margaret Cogswell, daughter of Gifford and Sarah Cogswell of Ipswich, on 11 Apr 1745, at the Chebacco Parish Church, in Ipswich.[4][5] After their marriage, William and Margaret resided in Ipswich and were part of the Chebacco Parish community. They had five children baptized at the Chebacco Parish Church:
After the death of his first wife Margaret, William married Hannah Burnham on 4 July 1754 at Ipswich.[11] Likely related to property derived from the estate of his late wife Margaret, William was named guardian to his minor children with Margaret on 23 October 1754.[12]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with William by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA test-takers in his direct paternal line.
Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line:
Goldsmith-1758 and Goldsmith-1181 appear to represent the same person because: This is the same William Goldsmith who married first Margaret Cogswell and who married second Hannah Burnham.
I find this profile very confusing. I am unsure if she was actually married to William Goldsmith. Both her and William's profiles are a mess on Family Search. Many of the dates are off by 20 plus years. I am leaning toward that she was only married to Francis Burnham. Also that several profiles of William Goldsmith have been merged incorrectly.
I'm looking at a SAR Patriot application on Ancestry. It mentions "William Goldsmith was born in Chelmsford, MA 1725 and died in Andover? 1812 married first Margaret Cogswell and second Hannah Burnham. From the first marriage several children including Jeremiah Goldsmith, a Revolutionary soldier, who married Sarah Converse. From his second marriage he had a daughter, "Betsey" Goldsmith who married Deacon Nathan Brown of Whitingham VT. They had children : Rev. Nathan Brown, Sophia Burnham Brown, William Goldsmith Brown, Isiah M Brown, and Nancy E Brown. The applicant's father was Rev. Nathan Brown.
There were two different William Goldsmiths (father and son) both of whom married a woman named Hannah Burnham -- the marriages being 20 years apart. William Goldsmith baptized 9 Feb 1751/52 (son of William and Margaret) and died in 1841 married Hannah Burnham born on 18 April 1754, their marriage on 29 August 1774.
William Goldsmith born 1726 who died in 1812 married Hannah Burnham born in 1734 as his second wife, their marriage being in 1754.
William Goldsmith father and son both married women named Hannah Burnham.
