Biography

Richard Goldsworthy was born before December 26, 1809 in Camborne, Cornwall, England, son of John Goldsworthy (1782– ) and Mary Anne Battrell (1787– ). Richard, son of John Goldsworthy & Mary, was baptised on 26 December 1809 in Camborne, Cornwall, England.[1]

Richard married Mary McCormick Cullis on 21 February 1833 in Lanlivery, Cornwall, England. (Note: they were both of this parish). [2]

In the 1841 census, Richard Goldsworthy with wife Mary and children Eliza (4) and Henry (1) are living in Tywardreath, Cornwall. (Note: Tywardreath is less than 4 miles from Lanlivery).[3] Their eldest daughter Mary Ann is at the home of her maternal grandparents, Henry and Ann Cullis, in Lanlivery. [4]

After the death of his wife Mary in January 1846, Richard Goldsworthy (of full age, occupation miner, residence Cardinham, father John Goldsworthy) married Elizabeth Chapman on 4 April 1846 in Lanivet, Cornwall. (Note: Richard's wife Mary died in Cardinham, which is 6 miles from Lanivet) [5]

Richard Goldsworthy, with wife and 2 children, emigrated to South Australia on the Lady Bruce, arriving at Port Adelaide on 11 November 1846. [6]

Elizabeth Goldsworthy, wife of Richard, passed away age 28 on 29 January 1847 in South Australia. [7]

Richard Goldsworthy (widower) married Jane Magor on 28 September 1847 at Holy Trinity Church, Adelaide. [8] [9]

He passed away age 57 on 31 December 1865 in Copperhouse (South Australia) [10] His last Will and Testament leaves his estate to his wife Jane for support of herself and his children (not named). [11]

GOLDSWORTHY. On the 30th December, at Copperhouse, Richard Goldsworthy, late captain in Burra Mine aged 57 years. His end was peace. [12]

Research Notes

In an attempt to sort the confusion over the 3 Richard Goldsworthy's, (the other 2 being Richard Goldsworthy (bef.1814-) and Richard Goldsworthy (1808-) that I believe can now be ruled out) I will be adding sources and making changes as I find new information, in an attempt to confirm that this Richard Goldsworthy married Jane (Magor) Goldsworthy (1815-1877) in South Australia in 1847 ~ Karyn Homburg

Goldsworthy-1658 and Goldsworthy-330 do not represent the same person because: Richard Goldsworthy-330 married Mary Cullis and lived in Lanlivery, Richard Goldsworthy-1658 married Mary Francis and lived in Gwennap.

Goldsworthy-666 and Goldsworthy-330 do not represent the same person because: I believe they are 2 different people, born 5 years apart, one in Camborne the other in Phillack, with more research required.

Thanks for that Scott, I would appreciate it if you let me know what you find. Yes there many Richard GOLDSWORTHYs running around.

I posted that profile some years ago when I was trying to understand how a Richard GOLDSWORTHY married to Mary Ann McCormick CULLIS could be the same Richard who arrived SA with wife Elizabeth Chapman CULLIS and Mary's children, the oldest, Mary Anne GOLDSWORTHY married Robert James Bray PENNO 1854 Bodmin, Cornwall before they also emigrated to South Australia. - my mother's family. http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/australia/melbourne1858.htm Robert, Mary Anne and children Sarah Jane, Eliza Anne and Richard G listed as PENNS, arrived in Australia on the MELBOURNE at Port Adelaide 6 Dec 1858 from Liverpool. SOUTH AUSTRALIAN REGISTER Thursday 28 Jan 1869 p.2 PENNO - On the 15th January at Kadina, Mary Ann PENNO aged 34 years, daughter of the late Captain Richard Goldsworthy, Burra Mines, and beloved wife of Robert PENNO, who with four children mourn their bereavement.

Cornwall OPC best date fix have Ann McCormick CULLIS (mother Mary) christened 12 Jun 1814, Lanlivery, Mary GOLDSWORTHY buried 23 Jan 1846, age 31, Church Town, Cardinham. Richard GOLDSWORTHY married Elizabeth CHAPMAN (Chr 19 Dec 1819 Church Town, Lanivet,) on 4 Apr 1846 Lanivet . They sailed to South Australia on the LADY BRUCE from 2 Aug 1846 London via Southampton & Plymouth. Elizabeth died 29 Jan 1847 Tusmore, Adelaide, SA. No children

Richard GOLDSWORTHY married Jane MAGOR (1816 Cornwall-15 May 1877 Riverton, South Australia) on 28 Sep 1847 at Holy Trinity Church, Adelaide, South Australia. 5 children. South Australian Register, Thursday 14 June 1877, p.7s GOLDSWORTHY.— On the 15th May, at her son's residence, Riverton, (Mr. R. Goldsworthy), Jane, relict of the late Captain R. Goldsworthy, Burra Burra Mines, aged 62 years. Safe in the arms of Jesus.

Don't know if this helps or confuses, I also don't know where you live but I have good access to South Australian BDM data, but Cornwall is a bit of a swim. If I can help in anyway or you can disprove my data please let me know. In the 1800s up to 25% of this state's population were Cornish. Cheers, Ken

I have started a conversation at https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1635306/how-many-richard-goldworthys to try to work out if the three profiles should be merged, and who he married if it's only one person.
