My name is Paula Gomez Williamson. I have been working on my family's genealogy for many, many years. I was given a copy of the family tree created from research compiled by my great-aunt and uncle on my father's line and was immediately hooked. I have always loved research and learning new things. Mysteries are a puzzle to be solved. I want to see how the names on a page become flesh and bone. For many years I wrote a genealogy column for our local newspaper and loved helping others find their roots. I firmly believe that we are strongly connected to our past whether we realize it or not. Each individual is directly influenced by the previous generation stretching back decades.
My father was raised in Chaperito, NM, a small farming community in San Miguel County near Las Vegas. It is nothing but a ghost town now. The cemetery is overgrown and the buidlings are falling down. It sits on private land and is slowly disappearing. He was raised there by his maternal grandparents, Teodoro and Reyes Apodaca. His maternal family has deep roots in NM stretching back to the Reconquest period. His paternal line ends in a brick wall near Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico we believe in the Bachimba Canyon area. What his story is, is not yet told.
My mother was raised in Ovid, CO, a small dirt community centered around farming too. Her family comes from Germany and were Mennonites in PA who moved slowly west. Maternal surnames include Hill, Beechley/Beeghly, Lamb, Dunn and DeWitt. The last two are frought with mystery waiting to unfold!
