Biography

Juan was born about 1627 to the Portugal-born soldier Sebastián González and his half-Indian wife, Isabel Griego Bernal.^[1] Sebastián arrived in New Mexico in the 1620s^[2] while the Griego Bernals were part of the original 1598 colonization of New Mexico.^[3] Juan was married to Apolonia Varela^[2].
