Biography

Ynocencio was born about 1843 to Rosario Moya and an unknown father. In the 1860 Census, he and his mother both used the surname Gonzales, which he continued to use after his marriage.[1] In 1868 he married María Lucía Padilla[2] and they had 11 children:

  1. María Josefa Gonzales, born about 1869
  2. María Marcelina Gonzales, born about 1871
  3. Nicolas Gonzales, born about 1876
  4. Eustacia Gonzales, born about 1877
  5. Alcario Gonzales, born about 1880
  6. Arnelio, born between 1880 and 1885
  7. Juan, born between 1880 and 1885
  8. Beatrice, born between 1880 and 1885
  9. Florencio Gonzales, born about 1888
  10. Alfredo Gonzales, born about 1892
  11. Antonio Gonzales, born about 1903

Only 5 were still living by 1900.[3]

Lucía and Ynocencio lived in Santa Fe their entire lives. They both died in 1920.[4]

Research Notes

  1. Ynocencio was almost certainly a natural child, because his father's name is not mentioned on his marriage record and his surname matches his mother's. Gonzales could be the surname of his father or one of his grandparents' surnames. Since Rosario also used it in the 1860 census, most likely it is the surname of one of her parents or grandparents.
  2. According to the 1900 Census, Ynocencio and Lucía had 11 children; 5 were still living (only Josefa, Florencio, and Alfredo are certain, Antonio was not yet born). In the 1910 Census Lucía stated that she had 8 children, 3 still living. On that Census, Florencio, Alfredo, and Antonio are living at home. Josefa's youngest daughter was born about 1912 so she was also still alive.
  3. Santa Fe County Probate records are not available online. Someone needs to obtain a copy from the Santa Fe County Courthouse. I checked the probate records for Maricopa County, Arizona, but did not find anything under Gonzales or Moya for 1920.

Unsourced Family Notes

  1. On February 14, 1920, José Sena consoles Josefa for the loss of her parents (Ynocencio and Lucia) so close together. Ynocencio’s will is dated 24 January 1920, so his death occurred the last week of January or the first week of February.
  2. Ynocencio was tall, with light hair and green eyes. He was a rancher who had cattle and sheep. At the time of his death, he resided at 418 College St., Santa Fe. [Anita, 1994]
  3. Ynocencio’s will, 24 Jan 1920, is made out in Maricopa Co., Arizona.
