William W. Goode was born about 1841 in Virginia. In 1860 he was living in Whitmell, Pittsylvania with Samuel D. Goode(1831) and family. Samuel possibly William's brother. William was working as a blacksmith, as was Samuel Goode.
In 1861 William enlisted in the CSA, and was in the 38th Virginia Infantry, Company D. This unit also known as the Whitmell Guards.
Sergeant William W. Goode was killed in the Battle of 7 Pines near Richmond on May 31, 1862.
