Biography

Miles was born^[1] and baptised in 1847 in Hull, Yorkshire, England,^[2] where he lived with his parents, Charles Goodfellow and Hannah Tomlinson.^[3] In 1861 Miles worked as a factory boy;^[4] in 1871 he was a gas works stoker.^[5]

Miles married Ann Elizabeth Hutchinson (née Drury) in 1875.^[6] The family lived in Hull in 1881, when Miles was a coal porter.^[7] He was a dock labourer in 1891^[8] but had become an invalid by 1901.^[9]

Miles died in 1904 at the age of 57.^[10]
