Ada was born in Tennessee in March of 1855 to Philip and Julia Ingram Caple. She is listed with her parents on the 1870 Census in Grainger, Tennessee.[1] It is believed that she married Mr. Goodman (FNU) shortly after the 1870 Census was taken and they had one daughter; Effie Lena Goodman in 1871. Mr. Goodman passed away and she married J. A. Snead on August 9, 1874 in Shelby, Tennessee.[2] The couple had a son; Claudius in about 1875 and another son; Walter in September of 1876. At this time her exact date of death is unknown but her three known children: Effie Goodman, Claudius Snead, and Walter Snead; are listed in the home of her parents; Phillip and Julia - on the 1880 Census in McLennan, Texas.[3]
Not much is known about the parents of Walter Caple Snead but I do not believe that his mother's maiden name was Goodman. I believe that she was first married to Unknown Goodman and that her maiden name is Caple (hence Walter's middle name). My reasoning for this is the 1880 Census in which Walter is listed with his grandparents (Phillip and Julia Caple) with a sister; 9 year old Effie Goodman and a brother, 5 year old Claudius Snead in McLennan, Texas. The following details have been gleaned from census reports regarding Walter Snead:
Note Based on this information it is believed that his mother was likely born in Tennessee and his father was probably born in Virginia.
