John Goodrich Jr. was a Virginia colonist.

John Goodrich,[1] son of John Goodrich and Joan UNKNOWN, was born about 1652 in Isle of Wight County, Virginia.

John was Captain of Militia and justice of the peace in Isle of Wight County. He was elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses for the 1695-96 sessions but died before the 1696 session began.[2]

Death & Legacy

Captain John Goodrich died before June 9, 1696, when his will was recorded in Isle of Wight county:[3]

  • sons George and John
  • daughters Honour, Constancy, Mary, and Elizabeth
  • daughter Elizabeth had "land given her by her grandfather-in-law, George Cripps"
  • wife (not named) extx
  • Overseers: "my brother Robert Kae and Mr. James Day"
  • Wit. Robert Thomas, Martha Thropp, Edward Farnesfield, Thomas Proud

His will was dated January 13, 1695 and describes land adjoining Thomas Proud and Thomas Thropp (to son George), land on which Thomas Drew lives (to son John), and land "bought of Gilbert Adams" (in addition to the land given to Elizabeth, noted above).[3]

Isle of Wight Co., VA, DB 8, p. 457, 3 Apr 1752: “Edward Goodrich and James Calcote and wife, Mary Calcote, of Newport Parish in Isle of Wight and Elizabeth Clinch of Southwark Parish in Surry Co. to James Baker of Isle of Wight. 50 acres on the main Blackwater adj. Benjamin Goodrich and sd. Baker (being the same land John Goodrich, the Elder, willed on 13 Jan 1695 to his dau. Constantia Goodrich for her natural life and then to go to his two sons, John Goodrich and George Goodrich. Edward Goodrich is Heir at Law to the sd. John Goodrich and Mary Calcote and Elizabeth Clinch are coheirs of the sd. George Goodrich). Wit: John Wills, Richard Baker, Thomas Applewhaite, Francis Wrenn, Charles Fulgham, William Goodrich. Rec. 4 Jun 1752.” [4]

Goodrich-1106 and Goodrich-530 appear to represent the same person because: brothers born same year. Death was 1696 (year will was recorded - will names daughter Honour). Please merge. Thanks!
