Biography

Lewis and his twin were born "about four hours after midnight" on 23 October 1744 and on the same day both were baptized on 23 Oct 1744 at Greenfield Hill, CT.[1]

Probate

His will is dated 22 July 1827 and proved on 29 August 1829 in Fairfield. He mentions his wife, Damaris, and his five sons, Joel, George W., John, Lewis, and Thomas. His inventory was completed on 12 September 1829. And one-third of the real estate was to be set out to the widow, Damaris.[2]

Last Will and Testament of Lewis Goodsell 1744-1829.

In the name of God Amen I Lewis Goodsell of Weston in Fairfield County being of a sound and disposing mind and memory do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in the manner following to wit. ---In the first place I direct that all my Just Debts be first paid and likewise Funeral charges and Satisfied out of my Estate.

Item I Give and Devise and bequeath unto my well beloved wife Damaris One Cow to be her own forever, also the use and improvement of all my real estate during her natural life Then to be divided to and among my Children hereinafter named in the following manner—

Item. I Give, Devise, and bequeath unto my Three Sons, John Goodsell, Lewis Goodsell, and Thomas Goodsell Eighty Dollars to be Equally divided between them which is in Lieu of property I received that was their Mothers.

Item all the residue of my Estate I Give, Devise, and bequeath unto my five sons Joel Goodsell, George W Goodsell, John Goodsell, Lewis Goodsell and Thomas Goodsell to be equally Divided between them to share and share alike to be and belong to them and their heirs forever. Lastly I constitute and appoint My said Son Joel Goodsell the Executor of this my last Will and Testament and I do hereby revoke all other Wills by me made at any time. In Testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the 22d day of July A.D. 1827.

Signed Sealed & published by the said Lewis Goodsell as for his last Will and Testament in our presence at his request (signed) Lewis Goodsell & in the presence of each other have here unto subscribed our names as witnesses

John Tunney Nathan Wakeman Isaac Bennet

Fairfield County, Weston August 29th A.D. 1829 Personally appeared Isaac Bennet & John Tunney and made solemn Oath that they saw Mr. Lewis Goodsell the above Testator sign & seal the foregoing Instrument and heard him publish and declare the same to be his Last Will & Testament and that they believed him to be of a sound and disposing mind and memory at the time and that they in his presence in the presence of each other and in the presence of Mr. Nathan Wakeman the other witness Subscribed the same as witness.

Sworn before me Harvey Hubbell Justice. Peace.
