Kate was Ho-Chunk.

According to her grave stone, Kate was born about 1857. (Find a Grave) However, the date recorded in the 1900 Federal census was "Feb. 1864," a date supported by other censuses. This reflects a well known tendency of older people to exaggerate their age.

Her Hocąk name given in the censuses is E-noo-nee-kah, which is for Hinugᵋníka, "Girl Bear" (literally, "Little Woman"), a female name in the Bear Clan. (McKern 70, #15) This is from hinuk, "woman"; ník, "little, small"; and -ka, a definite article suffix used in personal names.

The 1900 Fed. census records that she and John Mike were married for 11 years.

She died in 1937 (aged 79–80), in Levis, Clark County, Wisconsin, USA. She is buried in the Dewey Mike Cemetery, Neillsville, Clark County, Wisconsin, USA. (Find a Grave)
