Biography

He was still alive in 1780, living in Caroline Co., in 1780 when his mother wrote his will.

Peter Goodwin was married twice
(1) Anne Coleman about 1760. She was born about 1740, daughter of James Coleman & Mary. She died in 1766 with the birth of their 3rd child, Mary Chapman Goodwin.
(2) Sarah Hawes Coghill about 1768. Sarah was born about 1745 & died in Caroline 10 Aug 1822. They had 4 children.

I give to my son Peter Goodwin my land in King William County to him and his heirs forever, also I give him six negroes: Jack that I bought of Burras, Tom at Louisa, Sue that came from my mother, Cesar, Seaton & Charles that lives with him and all that belongs to me on the Plantation only Liddey and George to him and his heirs forever also I give him my Silver Tankard, the large looking glass he is to have at his mother's death or if she marrieth, also I give him £35.

Caroline Co., Virginia - 11 Apr 1782 (James) Coleman Goodwin (born 1761) chose Peter Goodwin (his father) to be his guardian.
(These 3 are the children of Anne (Coleman) Goodwin dec'd & they inherited from their Coleman grandfather) On the same date the court ordered Samuel Hawes, John Washington, George Madison, Robert Faulkner and William Dismukes to divide the Negroes of James Coleman Goodwin, Julius Coleman Goodwin, and Mary Coleman, agreeable to a deed from James Coleman to Peter Goodwin. (Note the daughter Mary b 1766 was married to her cousin Hawes Coleman)
