Fact: Caution: The William & Mary Quarterly MD. Genealogical article: It is very likely that too many individuals have been attached as children of Abner Goodwin. Manyindividuals have used this article to (erroneously) connect several Goodwin Families who resided in Putnam Co. IN at the same time. The article contains numerous errors, it states that Abner was born in Wheeling WVA (wrong) and lists Francis Goodwin (Jr.) (b. in 1799 who married Sarah Greathouse as Abner's son, , which is proven false by that individual's marriage record which names his father as Francis Goodwin Sr (b. in Ulster Co. Ire) And also by the ages of the individuals. It also states that Alexander Goodwin is a son of said Francis Goodwin (Jr.) which is in error as he is the same age (..unconfirmed if Alexander is Francis Goodwin Sr.s son) This article has been used as a source on Find A Grave for Abner Goodwin's children, however, the numerous errors challenge the entire veracity of the claims made in this article.
Fact: http://familysearch.org/v1/LifeSketch Abner Goodwin moved from Wheeling, West Virginia, to Greencastle, Putnam County, Indiana, where he was a farmer and owned land. While visiting his parents after they moved to Bardstown, Kentucky, he met Miss Charlotte Ginn and they were married in Nelson County, Kentucky, on 10 March 1812 by M. Pierson. Children born in Putnam County, Indiana, were: Ceclia, Helen, Rebecca, America, Lewis Heddie born 13 August 1818, Francis, Milton Connley, George Dudley born 6 March 1822, Christofer C. and Charlotha on 11 December 1823, Bearleigh born 8 March 1824, and Patricia (Patsy) born 29 September 1830. Charlotte Ginn Goodwin died and is buried At Greencastle, Putnam, Indiana. Abner Goodwin married (2) Mary Catherine Gardner and their children were all born in Greencastle, Indiana: John, Thomas Abner, Hannah, Benton and Mary. (See "The Goodwin Family in America" in Memories.) Note that the book " The Goodwin Family in America" contains errors. Example: The first statement that says he moved from Wheeling WVA is in error as he moved from Nelson Co. KY, per his first deed in Putnam Co. IN in 1822, which reads Abner Goodwin of Nelson Co. KY. Also Francis Goodwin (Jr) attributed to Abner was the son Francis Goodwin Sr. etc.
