Biography

Thomas Goodwin, with his wife, Elizabeth (Jones) Goodwin, and 4 of his children: Elizabeth, Mary, Sarah, and Thomas Goodwin, emigrated to the Quaker-led colony of Pennsylvania in late 1708 to avoid religious persecution as Quakers in North Wales, his home having been at Llandewi Brefi, Cardiganshire. His oldest son, John Goodwin, remained in Wales and became a well-known Quaker pastor in Esgairgoch, Montgomery-shire. He died in 1763 at 82 years old (b: ca. 1681 in Cardiganshire, Wales).[1]

Thomas presented his certificate of membership to the Chester, Pennsylvania, Monthly Meeting on February 28, 1709. Elizabeth (Jones) Thomas, to whom he was married in North Wales in about 1680, was born in 1652 and died November 10, 1739 in her 87th year. After arriving in Pennsylvania, Thomas Goodwin settled first in Edgmont Township, Delaware County, on land later owned by Everett Passmore. The Chester Meeting records call him "Thomas of Concord" and also "Thomas of Edgmont".

Thomas Goodwin was taxed in Middletown Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, in 1715 and 1725. He died about 1725 as he is no longer on the tax rolls there after that date. His wife died on November 10, 1739, at 87 years old.

Goodwin-5831 and Goodwin-5729 appear to represent the same person because: for more clarity, check the info for the various siblings that appear; I think these are the same Father, and not all children have been inputted. One profile focuses on daughter Sarah, one profile focuses on Mary Goodwin who married Thomas James, etc
