Hannah Goodwin, the only daughter of Ozias and Mary (Woodward) Goodwin, was born in England in 1637-9. Her father, Ozias, was the progenitor of the Goodwin family in Connecticut. He was born in England in 1596 and came to America with Rev. Thomas Hooker. His wife, Mary Woodward was the daughter of Robert Woodward of Braintree, in the County of Essex, England.[1][2][3]
Hannah married William Pitkin at Hartford, Connecticut, in 1660-1. He died December 16, 1694, aged 55.[1][2][3][4]
Hannah (Goodwin) Pitkin died at East Hartford, on February 12, 1723-4, aged 86.[1][3][5] She is buried in Center Cemetery in East Hartford.[2] Her gravestone, apparently placed in the nineteenth century by Pitkin Family of America author Albert Palmer Pitkin, reads:
The Grave Of
HANNAH GOODWIN
WIFE OF
WILLIAM PITKIN.
THE ANCESTRAL MOTHER OF
ALL BY THE NAME IN AMERICA
BORN 1637,

Children of William and Hannah (Goodwin) Pitkin:[1]
Birth in England. It seems unlikely that Hannah was born in England. Her father apparently came to New England in 1632, which is supposed to be before she was born, and she is not listed as a passenger with her parents and brother William.[6]
