Biography
Alfred George Goodwyn was born in Saint Botolph without Aldgate, London, and baptised there on 17 August 1819. He was the son of Thomas Wildman Goodwyn and Elizabeth Flower[1]
In 1834, Alfred applied to become a cadet in the Military Seminary of The United East India Company, he was recommended by his mother Elizabeth Goodwyn. [2]
Alfred married Maria Ann Ross in Simla, Bengal on 11 April 1844. Alfred was shown in the register as a Lieutenant in The Bengal Engineers, and the son of Thomas Wildman Goodwyn, Maria's father was Andrew Ross. [3]
Alfred died in Brislington, Somerset on 11 April 1873. His entry in the probate calendar reads : [4]
GOODWYN Alfred George. The will with a codicil of Alfred George Goodwyn, formerly of St Stephens Square, Bayswater in the county of Middlesex, but late of 27 Park Street, Bath, in the County of Somerset, a Major General on the retired list of Her Majesty's Army and late of the Royal Bengal Engineers, who died on 11 April 1873 at Brislington House, Brislington in the County of Somerset was proved at the Principal Registry by Maria Anne Goodwyn, of 27 Park Street, widow, the Relict the Executrix during widowhood.
