Biography

Hannah was born in 1828. She was the daughter of Captain Harry Gordon and Anne Carnegie.

Her father died in 1836.

UK Census Event Date 1851: Recorded in the household of her uncle James Carnegie, along with her widowed mother Anne, at Marine Parade, St James, Kent, England. Aged 22 and single.

Occupation: Fund Holder

She married William Fellowes on 16 June 1857[1]:

MARRIAGES
FELLOWES—GORDON.— On the 16th inst., at St. John's Episcopal Chapel, Edinburgh, by the Very Rev. Dean Ramsay, Capt. W. A. Fellowes, R.N., eldest son of the late Admiral Sir T Fellowes, C.B., to Hannah, only child of the Late H. Gordon Esq. of Knockespock, Aberdeenshire.[2]

They had the following children:

  1. Harry Gordon (b. 16 Oct 1858, d. 30 Dec 1925)
  2. Blanche Mary (b. c 1862, d. 24 Jan 1960)
  3. Anne Charlotte (b. 7 Apr 1860)
  4. Arthur William (b. 10 Nov 1864)

In the 1861 Scotland Census she was recorded in the household of her mother Anne Gordon at 7 Athol Crescent, Edinburgh, Scotland. She was 32 years of age. Also in the household was her husband William, two young children Harry and Anne, and eight other individuals.

Her husband Rear Admiral William Abdy Fellowes assumed the additional surname of Gordon by Royal Licence in 1876. He died in 1878.

UK Census Event Date 1881: Recorded as a visitor in the household of Francis and Eliza Barton in Cambridge Terrace, Dover St James The Apostle, Kent, England. Aged 52 and a widow.

In the 1891 Scotland Census Hannah was recorded in the household of her married son Harry and his wife Millicent at Priory House, Fife. She was now 63 years of age.

She passed away in 1897 at the age of 68.

Aberdeen Press and Journal - Wednesday 08 September 1897, p4:
FELLOWES-GORDON. At 17 Albyn Place, Aberdeen, on the 2nd inst., Hannah Gordon, widow of the late Admiral Fellowes-Gordon of Knockespock, Aberdeenshire.

Her will was proved on 22 December 1897 at Aberdeen to James Carnegie of Stronvar, Perthshire, Executor dative qua Judicial Factor on her Estate. - Will or Deed dated 10 October 1872, and recorded with another Writ in Court Books of Commissariot of Aberdeen, 7 December 1897. Value of Estate, £8698, 14s. 5d.
