William Gordon Lived in Kentucky County, VA

William was born about 1779. He is the son of John Gordon and Elizabeth Grayson.

Estate of John Gordon, Deceased, appraised. Elizabeth Davis, Late widow of John Gordon, deceased, allotted her part. Teste, John Thompson, Newton Curd, Jacob Woodson. Date Oct 10, 1797. Division of now 15 years dead Father's personal estate (Slaves) between Mother and children who now are of age. Eight Children were named each allotted their share; Ambrose Gordon; John & James Gordon; Elizabeth and Janetta Gordon; William Gordon; Mary Gordon, now wife of Paulser Smelser; Nancy Gordon, wife of Abner Martin. Date Oct 1797 This date would have been when his last child became an adult and his personal property (slaves) could be divided between them[1]


....the present McGarys of Hopkins County, were emigrants from the Harrodsburg settlement and Mercer County. So were Bounds Ashby and Paran Cardwell and so were the brothers John and William Gordon, whose father, Captain John Gordon, died in the Battle of Blue Licks, August 19, 1782. They came from their preemption, "Pleasant Fields" on Shawnee Run, in Mercer County, with their mother and step-father, Joseph Davis and their brothers-in-law Abner Martin and Paulser Smelser, and their half-brothers Benjamin and Thomas G. Davis. John Gordon was a skilled surveyor, a deputy under his brother-in-law Edmund Talbott, surveyor of Henderson County, and practiced his profession and farmed on Sugar Creek.[2]
