For some reason, Jane is not included in the 1871 Census which was taken on Sunday 2nd April but she does appear with her family in Dalrymple Street Girvan in 1872, aged 9 and described as a scholar [2].
By 1891 Jane had left home and was working as a General Domestic Servant in Edinburgh. There does not seem to be any connection with her employer or any of the other staff, lodgers or visitors [3].
By 1896, Jane had returned to Girvan and on 9th June that year she married Alexander Thomson, a fisherman, at the Union Hall, Henrietta Street, Girvan [4].
Their three daughters all survived however as a result of Jane's third pregnancy, she developed puerperal septicaemia and died on 1 May 1903 [5]. She is interred in Doune Cemetary, Girvan.
