Biography

Solomon was probably born November 12, 1884[1] (see Notes). He was born in Russia.[2] to Simon Gordon and Yetta (Unknown) Gordon.[3]

Solomon, his parents, and four siblings immigrated from Russia to England between 1887 and 1889, where they settled in London. By 1895, four more siblings had been born, and between 1895 and 1898 Solomon's father left to establish a residence in Baltimore, Maryland, United States (see Notes).

Solomon traveled to the United States with mother and eight siblings. They left Liverpool, England June 18, 1898 aboard the SS Gallia and arrived at St. Levis, Quebec, Canada on June 28, 1898. Solomon, at 17 years old, listed his occupation as a tailor. The family's final destination was listed as at 1119-1121 Orleans St. in Baltimore, Maryland, United States, where Solomon's father lived.[4] The family entered the United States in St. Albans, Vermont.[5]

In 1900 Solomon lived in Baltimore, Maryland, United States with his parents and his eight siblings.[3] Solomon remained there with his parents in 1910[2] and 1920.[6]

Solomon married Minnie Rudman and they had two children, Burton and Phyllis.

1930 found Solomon still in Baltimore, Maryland, United States living with Minnie, their two children, and a boarder.[7]

In 1933, Solomon filed a petition in Baltimore, Maryland, United States to become a naturalized United States citizen .[8]

By 1940, the boarder no longer lived with the family, however Solomon's mother-in-law had joined them.[9]

Solomon registered for the World War II draft in 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland, United States. At the time, he was employed by a cloak manufacturer.[1]

Solomon died October 15, 1955 and is buried in plot B 9 5 of the Bnai Israel Congregation Cemetery in Baltimore, Maryland, United States.[10]

Notes

Birth Date
Solomon seemed to get younger with the passage of time. Records showing his birth date and place are:

1900 Census - October 1880 in England[3]
1910 census - 1883 in Russia[2]
1920 Census - 1885 in Russia[6]
1930 Census - 1884 in Russia[7]
1940 Census - 1887 in Russia[9]
World War II Draft - November 12, 1884 (deemed most reliable)[1]
Naturalization Petition - 1885[8]
Find a Grave - November 12, 1884 in Latvia[10]

Father Immigration Solomon's father's immigration record has not been found, however Solomon's immigration record indicates that he will be joining his father in Baltimore, Maryland, United States,[4] therefore it is presumed that his father, who must have been with the family in England until at least shortly before the May 1895 birth of Solomon's youngest twin siblings, Bessie and Mary,[3] emigrated to the United States sometime before Solomon's arrival in July 1898.

Immigration Year
Somon's arrival in the United States is also stated differently in records:

1900 Census - 1894[3]
1910 Census - 1898[2]
1920 Census - 1889[6]
1930 Census - 1930[7]
Immigration Records (deemed most reliable) - 1898[4][5]
