Biography

Ann Gordon is believed to have been born about 1818 in Belfast, Ireland. Her arrival in Australia is unknown.

Ann married Irish widower James Gay at the Scots Church, Sydney, in 1847.[1] James had two daughters from his first marriage, and they had at least 5 more children together: Alice Rebecca, William Albert, Benjamin Gordon, Joseph James, and Catherine Amelia.

On the 7th of January,1859, Ann made an unspecified complaint against James in court.[2]

James died at the Sofala goldfields in 1864, however he had already abandoned Ann and the family so she would have been managing the farm on her own. In 1861 he was ordered to pay 10 shillings in support each week.[3]

In 1891, Ann Gay was living alone at Terragong, an area or property at Jamberoo.[4]
