Parish birth record ^[1] has John Gordon, son of Charles Gordon and Ann Horne baptised 11 May 1835

Parish records ^[2] have several instalments showing the illegitimate birth of a child in 1835 to Ann Horn and Charles Gordon from Keith - variously described as a "writer" and "John Grant's clerk", for which Charles Gordon paid 5 shillings penalty

It may be that Ann Horn went on to marry John Pirie in 1839 ^[3]

^[4] states John Gordon (bachelor farm servant, 30 residing at Reckonlane, Cabrach) son of Charles Gordon (deceased Law Clerk) and Anne (possibly Horne) Deceased domestic servant) married Isabella Kellas (25 year old domestic servant) daughter of Hugh Kellas (deceased crofter) and Margaret Kellas M.S. Grant on 23 June 1865 in Rothes

1871 Census ^[6] has John Gordon (25 - Ag Labourer born Speymouth Morayshire), Isabella (31 Born Rothes) and children Margaret (4 born Drainie), John (2) and William (1 month) both born Speymouth living at Orbliston, Speymouth. This appears to be the only variation of Isabella Gordon, born in Rothes with a husband named John so I am confident this is the right family

1881 Census ^[7] has John Gordon (45 born Cabrach - interim post runner), Isabella (40 born Rothes) with children Margaret (14) and Jane (13) both born in Rothes, John (5 born Mortlach), Peter (3) and Isabella (1) both born Cabrach. Family is living at Ballochford, Cabrach

Death Record ^[9] has John Gordon (age 65 with mothers maiden name of Horn) being registered in Glass. This is one of very few John Gordon's who died at age 65 years and the only one where the ages tally with the cemetery record.
