Biography

Bessie was born about 1909 in Pennsylvania, United States. Her parents were Israel Gordon and Lena (Throp/Trob/Trope ?) Gordon.^[1]

In 1910 Bessie (age 1) lived at 191 Meadow Street in Orbisonia, Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, United States with her parents and older siblings Louis (age 8), Frank (age 7), and Flora (age 3). Her father was a peddler.^[1]

The family may have moved to Virginia between 1913 (when Bessie's brother Myer was born in Pennsylvania) and 1914 (when her brother Joseph was born in Virginia), but they returned to Pennsylvania after 1921 (when her sister Eunise was born in Virginia).

In 1930, Bessie (age 21) lived at 1833 North Second Street in Harrisburg, Dauphin, Pennsylvania, United States with her parents and siblings Louis (shown as Lewis, age 28), Ethel (age 19), Myer (age 17), Joseph (age 16), David (age 14), Yetta (age 12), and Eunise (age 9). Ethel's husband Max Shore (age 25) also lived with the family. Bessie's parents had been married 30 years and her father was a grocery store proprietor. Louis was a grocery store clerk and Bessie's uncle Max Shore was a dry good store proprietor.^[2]

A record has been found showing the marriage of Bessie Gordon, daughter of Ezra and Minnie Gordon, and Joseph Koplovitz on October 8, 1912.^[3] Bessie (Gordon) Koplovitz died March 29, 1970 and was buried in the Chisuk Emuna Cemetery in Harrisburg, Dauphin, Pennsylvania, United States,^[4] the same cemetery where most of this Bessie's family was buried, which might lead to potential conflation.
