Letter dated May 27, 1898 from Sinnamhoning, PA written by Olive to her brother William Gorman (profile manager's great grandfather). Her nephew Herman would have been about 12 years old and her niece Mary about 10. This letter was written a week before Ollie died in childbirth:

Dear Brother, I will now try and answer your welcome letter that came to hand Alvin is improving slowly he is still taking medicine and is far from being well but he tries to work what he can. You asked me what I called the youngest one I call her Emma Retha she got a bad cold and it settled in her head and caused her head to beel and one of her ears has been running for nearly a week I am glad to hear that you are getting along so well with your farm I suppose Herman is big enough by this time to help you clear land Tell Mary that I was very glad to get a letter from her and that I would answer her letter to night if I wasn't so tired out and for her to write to me often. Does Carrie keep well or is her health poor Alvin was helping Jim Haynes shear their sheep to day. Perhaps you have heard that Mr. Caleb Haynes has gone crazy again and the boys had to send him back to the Warren Asylum last week Mrs Haynes is getting quite feeble and cannot do much. Will Baldwell and wife had their 1 year old child burn so badly that it died six hours after its clothing caught fire from lighting sticks in front of the stove while they were doing the chores I have 1 cow this summer am raising the calf and have a nice yearling heifer as news are scarce I will close for this time write soon I remain your loving sister Ollie M.
