Biography

Mary was born 3/19/1825 in Georgia. Her father was James Gorman and her mother was Mary (surname unknown), both from Kentucky. Mary married Alfred Buckner on 2/21/1843 in Georgia. In 1850 Alfred and Mary and their children were living and farming in Pike, Georgia, United States. In 1860 the family was living in 1001st District, Spalding, Georgia where Alfred was working as a classical English teacher. The family moved to California and some of them lived for many years in the Fountaingrove Utopian Community in Sonoma county, CA, In 1900 Alfred and Mary were boarders living in Santa Rosa, CA and Alfred was working as a gardener. In 1910 Mary was widowed and was living with her son Horace in Santa Rosa. Mary died 5/11/1914 and is buried with family members in the Santa Rosa Rural Cemetery (Plot Stanley VII-27).

Research Notes

Alfred and Mary may have lived in Portland, Chautauqua, New York in 1870 and 1880 (there are possible census records for this) but this conflicts with statement in the burial listing book that they moved to California in 1864 and lived several years at the Fountaingrove Utopian Community in Sonoma county, CA.
