Some researchers have placed William Gosnell as the son of Peter Gosnell and Margaret Sherly who was christened on 27 DEC 1652 at St. Andrew, Holborn, London, England[1] Without a will or similar primary source tying the William of this profile to the Peter Gosnell in London, his birth is unproven.
The man of this profile was possibly the same William Gosnell who left London 12 AUG 1677 bound from London for Virginia. [2] He was definitely in Maryland before 1678 or 1679 when he is listed as the plantiff in a law suit against Henry Hanslapp over some property. [3]
William Gosnell used the Maryland patent process to claim a 199 acre tract of land he named Gosnell's Adventure on 25 MAY 1683. The land was located on Rock Creek on the south side of the Patapsco River in Anne Arundel County.[4] At the time of the patent the land was in Anne Arundel County, but it was later determined to be in Baltimore County when William Gosnell sold it to Maurice Baker. [5]
William Gosnell was married to Sarah Hills about 1687. William & Sarah were the parents of the following children who are mentioned in his will. The daughter Elizabeth, who was married to a Mr. Wilson may be the product of a first marriage.
William passed away 11 MAY 1708/1709 in Anne Arundel, Maryland, United States [citation needed].
