Max served in Australian Army in World War 2. Private (NX180184) with 18 A O COY from 28th September, 1942 until 12th August, 1946. His Death Notice says he died at hospital, late of Arncliffe (ex second AIF) husband of Jessie. Aged 61. After a service at St. David's Anglican Church, Cnr. Forest Road and Pitt-owen Avenue, Arncliffe he was buried at Woronora Lawn Cemetery (Lawn 10, Plot 0421). He was a member of Petersham RSL Sub-branch and Club.
Max and Margaret were divorced and he married secondly.
