Lelah Mariah (Goss) Summerfield (1909 - 2004)

Biography

Lelah Mariah Goss Summerfield, 94, went to be with her Lord at 5:45 p.m. Sunday, March 7, 2004, at the home of her son, Junior Summerfield, at Blue Rock.

She was born April 8, 1909, at Blue Rock, the daughter of the late John and Madeline Tenney Goss. On Nov. 29, 1927, she was married to Denver V. Summerfield, who preceded her in death on April 2, 1976. Surviving are three sons, the Rev. Ralph Summerfield and wife, Mavadell, of Blue Rock, Junior Summerfield and wife, Betty, of Blue Rock, with whom she made her home for the past 14 years, and Ervin Summerfield and wife, Darlene, of Dayton, Md.; one daughter, Thelma Haupt of Annapolis, Md.; one sister, Violet Lacy of Mesa, Ariz.; 17 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Also preceding her in death were three brothers, Albert, Wilbert and infant James Goss; and seven sisters, Hope Roberts, Nell Leidy, Rena Kittle, Retta Tunning, Elizabeth Huffman and infants Virgie and Rozella Goss. Twin great-grandchildren also preceded her in death. Mrs. Summerfield was Apostolic by faith, and along with her husband pastored the Welcome Tabernacle Church in Mill Creek. She loved to read her Bible and do quilting, gardening and making crafts. Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. William McCartney officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Rock Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice Care Corp., PO Box 760, Arthurdale, W.Va. 26520. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Lelah Mariah Goss Summerfield.
