Biography
William was born about 1866. He was the son of James Goss and Sarah North. William married Gertrude Maud Strange in 1891. William established the Goss Timber and Box Company. He was the President of the North Canterbury Timber Merchant's Association and Managing Director of White and Co. Limited.
He was also a very well known tennis player and remarkably he did not begin playing tennis until he was aged 31. William won a number of tennis championships and was chosen to represent New Zealand against a visiting British team, who had won the Davis Cup in Australia. He was the President of the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association.
He passed away in 1945, aged 79 and is buried at the Bromley Cemetery, Linwood, Christchurch, New Zealand.
