Obituary

CARLSBAD — A funeral for Hubert A. Goss, 80, of West Blodgett Street, will be 10 a.m. today at Denton-Funchess Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Bacon of First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery.

Mr. Goss died Wednesday, May 8, 2002, at Carlsbad Medical Center.

Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Hubert A. Goss was born Sept. 1, 1921, to Jesse A. Goss and Callie M. Culver Goss in Paul's Valley, Okla. He grew up in Texas.

During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps with the 8th Air Force. For 23 months, he was a prisoner of war in Germany being liberated by Gen. Patton in 1945.

On July 27, 1951, he married Corinne Quarles in Carlsbad.

Mr. Goss was a resident of Carlsbad for the past 50 years, where he worked for IMC until his retirement in 1977.

Mr. Goss was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served as an usher and was involved in the Youth Prayer Breakfast. He loved children and sports and had coached basketball at the Boys and Girls Club. He was a wonderful husband, father and gramps.

His parents, one brother and five sisters preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of Carlsbad; daughters, LuWane Goss Harris of Alameda, Calif., Cheryl Scott Knight and husband, Pat, of Boone, N.C., and Adelle Scott Lynch and husband, Ron, of Roswell; brothers, Roy Goss and wife, Marcy, of Okanogan, and Cleetus Goss and wife, Jeane of Athens, Texas; sister, Jane Goss Sechel of Shawnee, and seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers are Ron Lynch, Pat Knight, David Knight, Scott Knight and Bobby Love. Honorary pallbearers are Luc Harris, Eric Harris, Lacey Harris, Shannon Moses and Annette Love.

Friends may call 4-9 p.m. today at Denton-Funchess Funeral Home.[3]
