Known mainly from the birth records of his children. Married to a Mary,
There are several conflicting accounts of the early Spaniard's Bay Gosses, none of which offer any sources for resolution. One account claims there was a Richard Gosse b. ca 1727 in England, who married a Catherine; and had 5 children born in Harbour Grace:
Another has much the same tree, except that it was a William Gosse (b 1725) married to Catherine) who were the parents of the Spaniard's Bay Gosses[2].
Regardless, the consensus view seems to be that William, Richard, and Robert are brothers.
Note
There was a William Gosse who married a Mary Gosse (both of Spaniard's Bay) in Harbour Grace in 1809[3].
