William Gosse was a reasonably common name in the area at the time, and it's not certain whether the son of Richard and Mary (b 1808) or the son of Robert and Grace (b 1809) was the one who married Diana French, and if the other married Elizabeth Porter.
Two William Gosses "from Spaniard's Bay" married in Harbour Grace about the same time: one in in 1830[2] and another in 1934.[3] Bread and Cheese Cove (later Bishop's Cove) may have plausibly been referred to as Spaniard's Bay.
