Thomas was born about 1830. He passed away in 1920.
Thomas and most of his children were living in Long Beach and surrounding area in the last 1800’s. Most of the children married there around that time.
Thomas Gosse married Harriet Butt on 13 December 1864 in Spaniard's Bay, Harbour Grace, Newfoundland.[1] He was a widower, she was a spinster.
Some family trees have Thomas Gosse as the wife of Julia Jewer. There only one record of a Thomas Gosse, married to a Julia. They had a daughter in Spaniard's Bay in 1840.[2]
It seems unlikely that the husband of Julia in the record above could be the same Thomas Gosse who was born in Bishop's Cove (that is Bread and Cheese Cove, near Spaniard's Bay) and died in Queen's Cove (age 90) on 11 May 1920 in Queen's Cove.[3] There are often large discrepancies between true ages, and the age given on death records. But this would imply a discrepancy of at least 12 years, which would be unusual. Moreover, Julia Jewer born 1831 could not have had children in 1841
It's not clear, in short, what we should believe about the age and spouses of Thomas Gosse, and what different men might be conflated here.
