Biography

Re Olivier Gosse, see Barriault pp. 136-138.

Olivier was born in 1609, baptized on 3 March. He is the 3rd known child (& 3rd son) of the 6 born to Guillaume Gosse and Marguerite de Lézeaux. His godfather was: Olivier Masure. Godmother: Louise Deschamps, widow of Jean Gosse.

Sometime before 1639, he married Dlle Jacqueline de La Hache, who was the daughter of Jean, Seigneur de La Hague (sic) & Dlle Jeanne de Sainte-Marie Du Boisfrioust.

On 10 Feb 1633, Olivier became godfather of his nephew Julien Gosse, son of Olivier's brother Perceval & Juliane Coupard.

On 25 Feb 1647 he was a witness for the marriage of his niece Jeanne Gosse to Samson Jouey. Jeanne likewise was a child of Olivier's brother Perceval & Juliane Coupard.

Olivier died Saturday, 16 June 1657, en route home from the city of Avranches, when he was at the village of le Coin de la Carelle, which is just SW of Avranches, on the north shore of the estuary there, which opens into the Baie St-Michel. He was buried two days later, in mid-afternoon, "in the church" at Champeaux. He was the maternal great-grandfather of Jacques Deschamps (ca. 1705-1780, parish priest of Champeaux and canon of Avranches. Olivier also was the maternal great-great-grandfather of Jean-Baptiste-François Deschamps, Sieur Du Manoir, a lawyer at Avranches around 1787.[1]

Both Olivier and his brother Jacques Gosse carried the nickname "Le Manoir".
