Sally Gamboa ... exhibited the same gentle forbearance throughout her life in the face of daunting physical and financial challenges, according to her pastor and fellow congregants at the small Calvary Baptist Church in Paradise, which she attended for decades before her death in the Camp fire at age 69.

Gamboa fulfilled her dream of being a missionary by serving for about a year in Costa Rica, where she learned Spanish. After returning, she married and lived with her husband and their son in the Los Angeles area. The family moved to Paradise in the mid-1990s to live with Sally’s elderly parents, who needed help.

After experiencing problems with her eyes and hands, Gamboa underwent surgery for a brain tumor at some point in her adulthood. She never regained full use of her right eye and hand, forcing her to rely largely on disability to survive. Her husband, Walter Gamboa, died in 2013. ^[3]
