Henry was born on 8 Apr 1757, probably in Maryland. He is thought to be the son of Henry Goucher (1720-1782) and Jeanne (Fleuriet) Goucher.[1]

On 5 May 1779, he enlisted for service as a Private in the Pennsylvania Artillery, Continental Line.[2] He is listed as a Pennsylvania soldier of the Revolution who became a pioneer to Ohio.[3]

About 1780, Henry married Rhoda (Rose) Lewis, the widow of Morris Lewis. Rhoda Lewis was born Rhoda Rose to David Rose and Hannah Parr.[1] These are the children of Henry and Rhoda Goucher:[4]

  1. Ann "Nancy" (1781-1882), m. ___ Hanson
  2. Elizabeth (1783-1866), m. ___ Parshall
  3. John (1784-1823)
  4. Robert (1788-1855), m. Margaret Patterson[3]
  5. Henry Jr. (1790-1860)

In 1790, the Gouchers were living in Reisterstown, Baltimore, Maryland, where Henry was enumerated on the 1790 Census for Washington Maryland.[5]

By 1820, the Gouchers had removed to Poland Township, Trumbull, Ohio, where Henry was listed as a head of household in the 1820 census.[6]

On 6 May 1841, still living in Poland, Trumbull, Ohio, he wrote a will in which he named his wife Rhoda and children Robert, Henry, Nancy Hanson, John, and Elizabeth Parshall.[4]

Henry Goucher passed away on 14 Jan 1842 in Mahoning County, Ohio. He lies buried in Goucher Family Farm Cemetery, Lowellville, Mahoning County, Ohio.[7]

Gougher-13 and Goucher-143 appear to represent the same person because: SAR and Find a Grave call him Goucher
