Biography

Janet Goudie was born in Nesting, Shetland Islands. After her marriage to Malcolm Malcolmson she lived at 25-27 Hangcliff Lane, Lerwick. At the time of the 1851 Census Janet Malcolmson, whose husband was a Mariner, was living at this address with two children, her mother Lillias Goudie and sister Mary Goudie, Hosiery Knitter. The 1861 Census shows Janet still living at this address, the older children had left home, and two younger children William and Mary aged 10 and 6, both Scholars were at home. Also her mother Lillias Goudie, aged 71 and her sister Mary Goudie aged 30 Knitter. The house consisted of 1 room with 1 or more windows. In 1871 Janet was living with her husband Malcolm Malcolmson and youngest daughter Mary aged 14 who was a knitter. Janet died on 30th March 1890 aged 70, at the home of her sister Mary Goudie at 25 Hangcliff Lane, Lerwick of Chronic Bronchitis and Dilation of the Right Heart.
