Biography

Alexander was born in 1846 in Scotland, the youngest of 6 or more children, the son of John Goudie (1802-1945) and Jean Campbell (1912-1890).[1]

His father John died in 1845.

In December 1854 his mother and 5 siblings arrived in Victoria on the 'Earl of Eglinton.' It had departed from Greenock.[2]

In 1878 in Victoria he married Agnes Campbell (1856-1924). [3] She was the daughter of John and Mary Campbell.

Alexander was employed as a Blacksmith.

They had about 8 children between 1879 and 1894:-

Jane Eliza "Jean" (1883-1943)
Mary Marshall (1883-1950)
Alexander "Alick" (1887-1956)
William "Willie" (1888-?)
Isabelle (1889-1920)
Jessie Campbell (1892-1959)
Agnes May "May" (1894-1981).

His wife Agnes died in 1924.

Alexander died in 1929, aged 83. [4]

GOUDIE.—On the 26th February, at his residence, Airlie, 31 Cochrane avenue, Camberwell, Alexander Campbell Goudie, beloved husband of the late Agnes Goudie, loving father of John, Jean (Mrs. Hall), Mary, Alick, Willie, Jessie (Mrs. Rogers), and May, aged 83 years. Colonist of 76 years.
GOUDIE.—The Friends of the late Mr. ALEXANDER GOUDIE are respectfully informed that his remains will be interred in the Boroondara Cemetery, Kew.
The funeral is appointed to leave his late residence, 31 Cockran [Cochrane] avenue, Camberwell, THIS DAY (Thursday, February 28), at 1.30 p.m. [5]

He joined Agnes [6] in Boroondara Cemetery, Kew, on 28 February 1929, in Presbyterian Section A, Grave 1208. [7]
