Biography

Paul Amable, the son of Pierre Gougeon and Marie Angélique Lécuyer was born 10 January 1773 in Montréal and baptized the following day. The Notre Dame parish register identifies him as "Paul Amable né d'hier au soir vers sept heures, fils legitime de Pierre Gougeon et de Angelique L'Ecuyer. Le parrain a été François [DeCavry?] et la marraine Marie Anne Goyer."[1]

He married Marie Angélique Gauthier 4 February 1793 in Montréal. The Saint-Laurent parish records state that the marriage was between "Paul Goujon, fils de feu Pierre Goujon et d'Angélique Lecuier ses pere et mere de cette paroisse d'une part, et Marie Angélique Gauthier fille de feu Joseph Gauthier et de Marie Elisabeth St Denis ses pere et mere aussi de cette paroisse d'autre part . . . . en présence de Pierre et Jean Baptiste Goujon, frères de l'époux, de Louis Lequier son beau-frère frère, de Joseph Gauthier frère de l'épouse, de Pierre Dubaut et Charles Lacroix ses amis et de plusieurs autres parents et amis."[2]

Paul died 13 January 1835 in Châteauguay and was buried two days later in the parish of Sainte-Martine: "Paul Gougeon époux de Marie Louise Gautier décédé en cette paroisse depuis deux jours, âgé d'environs soixante deux ans et ce en présence de Joseph Gougeon et de Paul Gougeon."[3]
