John Joseph Gould was born in 1854.

Obituary

The death occurred at the Cottage Hospital, Havelock, on Thursday, of Mr John Joseph Gould, an old and highly respected settler of Nydia Bay, Pelorus Sound. The deceased gentleman, who was in his 64th year, succumbed to the effects of a stroke, and his loss will be keenly felt by a large circle of friends. By his sterling qualities and kindly disposition he endeared himself to all who knew him. For many years in the early days Mr Gould was engaged with his father in the milling industry, being chiefly concerned in the conveying of logs by water from Nydia Bay to Blackball. In later years Mr Gould settled on a property at Nydia Bay. He leaves a widow, four sons, and three daughters living. One son (Private Frank Gould) has been killed in action, and another is now in camp.
