He married on December 26, 1896, to Addie McGunnigle, daughter of James and Mary (Philbrick) McGunnigle.[2] They divorced before 1900, when she remarried on February 14, 1900 to Ernest McGrath. At the time of the census in 1900, Herman lived with his brother and his family in Windham, New Hampshire, and was employed as a "distiller watch lager".[3]
He married secondly to Edna Bohannon, on February 11, 1903, in Haverhill, Mass. She was the daughter of Andrew and Louisa (Benway) Bohannon. They resided in Swanton, Vermont, by 1910, with their only daughter Louise.[4] He worked as a laborer at the feed mill. In 1920, Herman was still residing in Swanton, but he was a boarder at the home of Earnest Quebec.[5] Herman is listed as being married, but his wife was living with her father in Hudson, Massachusetts, at the time. The couple divorced sometime before 1923, when Edna remarried on July 31 of that year to Leon Gould.
By 1930, Herman lived in Everett with his third wife, Alice Leary.[6] He was a salesman at a grocery store. They later moved to Boston (before 1940), where worked as a freight elevator operator (1939-1956).
Herman died in Dorchester, Massachusetts, in 1976.[7] He was buried at the
Salem Street Cemetery in Malden, with his third wife Alice.
