Biography

Wife of Robert Brounker of Melksham, Wiltshire

Her first name is unknown. Her year of birth is unknown and is estimated as c 1475.

Her husband Robert Brounker of Melksham, Wiltshire, was recorded in the Visitation of Wiltshire in 1565 in which it was stated he had married a daughter of 'Gouldringe' (her first name was not recorded, her parents name were not recorded).[1]

In the Visitation of 1623 he was recorded as 'William' [which is an error] Branker and had married a 'Golding' (again her first name was not recorded and her parents names were not recorded).[2][3]

It has been suggested that the 'Golding' family was from Broughton Gifford, Wiltshire.[4][5] However, there is no mention of the Golding/Gouldinge family in the Victoria County History for Broughton Gifford.[6]

Children:

  • Henry Brounker[1][2]
  • Joan Brounker (married John Smyth of Corsham)[1][2]

The will of 'Robert Bruncker' which was made on 31 Jan 1535 and proved in Feb 1537 did not mention his wife and hence it is reasonable to assume she predeceased him.[7]
