Biography

Francis was born in 1895, the son of Charles Goulstone and Emily (Rogers) Goulstone.

He was baptised on 8 Mar 1895 at St Andrew Montpelier, Bristol, England. It looks as though he was baptised again as a Catholic, at St Mary on the Quay on 7 May 1896. (With an English father and Irish mother, this might have been a way to keep both branches of the family happy.)

From the 1901 census we learn that his father, Charles, had been born in Bristol St Michaels about 1860 and was a Cab Driver at the time of the 1901 census. His mother, Emily, was born in Dublin, Ireland, around 1873. At this stage there were four children in the family:

• Wilfred b1895 Bristol
• Gwendoline, 1897 Bristol - 1970 Chichester
• Olive (Goulstone) Hildreth b1899 Bristol

Francis emigrated to New Zealand where he married Florence Merrick/Meyrick in New Zealand in 1918.

He passed away in 1980 and was buried at Foxton, Manawatu.
