Margaret was born likely between 1802-1805 in Falkirk, Scotland, as per census data (cited below).

Margaret married William on 3 Dec 1820 in Falkirk, Scotland. ^[1][2]This record indicates both were living in Leith, although they married in Falkirk (presumably returning to Margaret's hometown?)^[3]

Margaret and William may have had the following children:

I have not been able to find the family in the 1841 census.

Her husband died in 1846.

1851 Scotland Census lists Margaret (approx age 46, estimated birth year 1805, born Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland) as the head of the household at 2 Cables Wynd, in Leith South, Midlothian. Also in the home are her children David (16), John (14), Jessie (10), and Thomas (7). ^[9]

In 1861, Margaret (approx 58, estimated birth year 1803, born Falkirk, Stirlingshire, Scotland), is listed as the head of the household. She continues to reside in South Leith/Leith/Midlothian at 28 Cables Wynd. Her occupation is listed as seamstress. Also at home is her son Thomas (17). ^[10]

In 1871, Margaret (68, estimated birth year 1803, of Falkirk), is listed as head of household in Leith South Burgh/Leith South/Midlothian at 13 Cables Wynd. Her occupation is listed as General Worker. Also listed in the home is her niece, Janet Henderson (20). ^[11]

Margaret died on 27 May 1878 and was buried on 30 May 1878 in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.^[12]

Several (unsourced) ancestry.com profiles indicate her mother's maiden name may have been McFarlane.

There is a birth record for a Margaret Gow, born 1802 to James Gow and Janet McNab, but with birth in Gorbals. ^[13]This is likely not the correct Margaret, as census data is consistently clear that this Margaret was born in Falkirk. However there are multiple ancestry profiles that conflate the two.

I have not been able to locate Margaret in the 1841 census. There are several entries for a Margaret Dick in Leith, however, none of the other household members are consistent with her husband and children.
