Biography

John was born in 1782. He was the son of John Gowan and Frances Norton. Lt. in 2nd. Battalion 30th. Regt., served in Egypt, Badajos and Waterloo. Killed by a fall from his horse on returning from a party to his home at Mount Nebo. He died in 1821, unmarried but left a son, John, a slightly mysterious person, the only record or whose existance isnin John Hinter Gowan II's will..."...(my) grandson John, son of my late son John."
