I have just found WikiTree. I have several ancestors who were interested in genealogical research. One Grandmother was a member of the DAR and similar organizations including Daughters of the Magna Charta through her research . On my wife's side one of her aunts believes she has traced her ancestry back to the group that arrived here on Mayflower (William Brewster). Many lines of our families arrived in America before 1776 About 15 or so years I compiled all the family tree information an put it in Family Tree Maker. Been looking at WikiTree and other sources (much different than 2005). Names of interest: Goens, Goin, Going, Gowens, Dobbin, Haynie, Conyers, Witherspoon, Tobin, Hardin, Daniels, Alley, Brooks, Blair, Forest, Allerton, Brewester

Hi Cuz,

Yes, I like that picture of James Blair Gowens. I have seen it before. He is my 2x great-grandfather through his second marriage to Sarah Luvisa Jackson, and their son General Washington Gowens. As you know, my Sarah Jackson is a sister to your Maryann Jackson... So, instead of you and me being 1/2 cousins, we may be even closer than that! :) According to Ancestry.com, we are 3rd. cousins. Have you done a DNA test anywhere? I have at Ancestry, 23andMe, FamilyTreeDNA, MyHeritage, LivingDNA, and have uploaded to gedmatch.

Sincerely, Paul Hawthorne.

P.S, My maternal grandmother was Maggie Lucille Gowens, b. Graham, TX. Her father is General Washington Gowens, b. Oak, Mills, Iowa 1860.

Hi Bob,

Thank you for adding your DNA to WikiTree. Getting the Best from DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

I hope this helps! If you have any questions or problems, let me know.

Take care

Hi Bob,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus. Review the project pages for special guidelines and to learn how to collaborate with the project members.

Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.

Remember to cite reliable sources in pre-1700 profiles you manage, or edit. (See:https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Pre-1700_Profiles#Cite_reliable_sources).

Hi Bob

Thank you for upgrading, 😊

I am very pleased to welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

I would suggest starting with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.

Happy tree climbing
