George Gowland was christened March 13, 1780 in Sunderland, Durham, England.
He married Ella on February 10, 1804 in Kirby-in-Cleveland, North Yorkshire, England. They had seven children, one of which possibly died before adulthood (Sarah).
George immigrated to Canada with his wife and children around 1824-1827, as their youngest child, Sarah (second Sarah) was born in Ontario in 1828.
In the 1852 Canadian census George and Jane (Ella's preferred name) were living in Etobicoke with their daughter, Sarah, her husband, James Addison, and two servants, John Foster and John Hugall.
George died in Etobicoke, Ontario on February 25, 1864 and was buried in Weston.
