Biography

Hans Graf was the son of Anabaptists Jakob Graf (bef.1616-bef.1683) and Anna (Sporri) Graf (1615-1683). He was baptized in Baretswil on December 6, 1636. He appears in Jane Evans Best's The Groff Book as GR31 (see page 3).

In 1640 he was living in Bettswill with his parents and one sibling.

In 1646 he was living in Bettswill with his parents and his uncle's family.

1649 he was living in Wirzwil with his parents and five siblings.

In 1651, when he was about 15, he moved with his parents, six siblings, uncle and others to Sintzheim. [1]

His father Jakob/Jagli and uncle Hans Jagli appear in the 1661 parish records of Barentschweil, Zurich [8344 Baretswil] as follows:

Jagli Graf, Teufer, from Weertzweil, went in the year 1651 to the Pfalz with other Teuffer, to Sintzheim with his wife and 7 children, [not named in record.] Hans Jagli Graf, brother of the above, also went to Sintzheim in 1651 with his wife and one child and two young men named Hans Graf [presumably this profiled man] and Heinrich Brandenberger, both single. It is not known if they are Teuffer.[2]

According to Best, he was the Hans Graff who appears in the following record and had died by February 8, 1681(Burgert only includes the record and does not draw any conclusions.):

  • m. 8 Feb. 1681 at the Rauhenhoff Hans Jacob Graff, son of the late Hans Graff, former Widertauffer at the Rauenhoff in the Schmidberg jurisdiction, and Barbara, daughter of Hans Ruth, Widertauffer and citizen at Weyler. [3]

His wife's name is not known.
