George was born about 1740.
In 1786 he married Celia Helm, widow of Capt. William Blackwell, and formerly of George Foote[1]. before his marriage to Celia, he may have had at least one daughter, Margaret.
Dr. George Graham passed away in 1816.
Gov. Henry Stuart Foote, Celia's grandson, wrote of him fondly in his book "Casket of Reminiscences" : "Dr.George Graham, a gentleman of rare accomplishement and high reputation in the medical profession. He had been educated at Edimburgh, being himself a native of Scotland, and was reported to be of good birth and affiliation in his native land. This gentleman was the third husband of my venerated grandmother, and often I sat in his lap in my childhood and been the grateful recipient of his more than fatherly attention. After the decease of my grandmother, Dr. Graham married a Miss Hooe, sister to the Bernard Hooe whom I have already mentioned as having lost his life on the field of honor."
Mr Foote was not born until 1804, and therefore could not have had direct knowledge of Margaret's birth or upbringing. According to available sources—all secondary—there is little reason other than family tradition to believe that Dr. George Graham was Margaret's father. One source, Martha Eheart King, at least cites Virginia court and tax documents suggesting that Susanna's husband, James McAllister (spelling varies), was also likely to have been Margaret's father.
George had no known children with either of his two wives.
