John Graham was a member of the aristocracy in British Isles.

Biography

JOHN, sixth Earl of Menteith, born circa 1572 to William Graham and Margaret Douglas, was a boy under five years old when he succeeded to his father after the Fifth Earl's death in September of 1578 (John was retoured heir in 1583). This appears from an action between George Buchanan of that Ilk, to whom he had been intrusted by his father, and Countess Margaret, his mother, who claimed the Letters of dispensation were obtained from King James VI on 7 October 1587, and a little later he was, notwithstanding his minority, infeft in the earldom and other lands. A lawsuit arose between him and his mother about the custody of some of the charter which she claimed were entrusted to her keeping by the late Earl ^[1] .

John married (contract dated 22 October 1587, when he was scarcely fifteen) Mary Campbell, sister of Duncan Campbell of Glenurch^[1].

John and Mary had two children ^[1] :

1. William who became 7th Earl of Menteith
2. A daughter, Christian, who married John Blackadder

John died in December 1598 ^[1].
